I learned that exercises to strengthen the physical body, breathing and vocal exercises are crucial before speaking to public. This session was highly beneficial to work on the strength of my voice, moderation of low and high sounds in combination with the correct way of breathing…
… I am grateful to have the opportunity to attend these sessions. As I am planning to study further and bringing presentations into the focus of my future career I would contact Jonathan again for further sessions. (Marianna , a child psychologist who I coached on public speaking)
From a dancers perspective working with Jonathan was a great experience, he led vocal work everyday to tune in to ourselves and the group before some rather challenging rhythm tasks with singing and body percussion which i thoroughly enjoyed! He also developed characters with us – or physical characteristics- from watching people, in detail, trying to then work on the precision of the gestures and create a profile of this new person we created – how did they walk, or smile, what was their attitude, how did they move? To work with Jonathan was thoroughly engaging and challenging, a real pleasure.
During my working process with Jonathan, I was challenged and inspired. Jonathan led me into a creative journey, where voice, rhythm, body & movement were interwoven together with character work. The process was focused on working as a group, whilst finding individual depths. I was encouraged to engage with all of my senses through detailed observation to active participation and physical research. My individual creativity, potential and possibility opened up through challenging exercises using voice and body. I was extremely engaged in finding ways how to use my body as a vehicle for sound, rhythm and performance. I felt as if I was part of a large musical composition through my physicality and performing body. This experience was truly inspirational for me as an artist.
I’ve had the pleasure of commissioning three scores from Jonathan, for three large scale site-specific creations in London and Germany. Jonathan was both composer and performer in our first collaboration at the Natural History Museum in London, 1996 and commissioned by the Dance Umbrella Festival. In 1998 we worked on a second commission with the Dance Umbrella Festival on a work made specifically for the British Library. In 1999, I engaged Jonathan to work with me on a large scale site-specific work for the Kokerei Zollverein Factory, Essen, Germany Jonathan’s music was superb and he worked extremely hard to make sure that the music was always appropriate and specific to both the site and the choreography.
Top qualities: Personable, High Integrity, Creative
Jonathan brought clarity in creating a large coordinated database and catalogue of the books and manuscripts in the collection. He was clear and transparent in our dealings with him and showed himself to be an honest, diligent and hard-working collaborator.
The job was to catalogue a bequest of books and other antiquities for insurance purposes and to make a catalogue for the future management of the bequest. Jonathan Stone came recommended … and brought his experience to bear on the creation of a spreadsheet. He was able to bring insights to each object that he handled, so adding to the value of the simple cataloguing. With a natural researcher’s eye and an easy-going and engaging manner, it was a pleasure to have Jonathan on site.
Jonathan’s experience, his interest, his fluency in booksellers language and his methodical approach was very helpful to me when I was sorting out inherited books to sell. What seemed like an overwhelming task became manageable. I recommend his services unreservedly.
